Betty Hope
17.5" x 11.5"
$250
The Blue Jay has a crest of feathers on its head that it raises or lowers according to its mood. When the Jay is excited, the crest points forward. If the bird is frightened, the crest bristles out like a bottle brush. Its vivid cobalt blue tail and wing feathers make it an exotic contrast to other birds that also over winter in Kootenay National Park. The colour of its feathers does not come from a blue pigment but rather results from the refraction of light by an unusual inner structure of the feather substance.
Betty has created this piece with a glass mosaic construction on plexiglass. She finds inspiration in living near Kootenay National Park and enjoys the wild birds of this beautiful area. Betty has enjoyed doing crafts and painting for much of her life. Betty began working with mosaics two years ago.
