The Humming Bird

Hummingbird species found in Kootenay National Park include the Calliope and the Rufous Hummingbirds. Both species are long-distance migrants breeding in this region and spending winters in Mexico. The Calliope prefers high mountains and usually builds its nests over or near water. Foraging on mountain flowers, these two species are the most northerly occurring of hummers. Their colourful, tiny bodies and amazing ability to hover in mid-air as they sip a flower s nectar make them a favourite species to enjoy during summer birdwatching in the park.
Betty has created this piece with a glass mosaic construction on plexiglass. She finds inspiration in living near Kootenay National Park and enjoys the wild birds of this beautiful area. Betty has enjoyed doing crafts and painting for much of her life. Betty began working with mosaics two years ago.
