Tundra Swans are seasonal visitors to Kootenay National Park as they migrate between their Arctic nesting grounds and winter range in California. They feed mainly on the tubers and roots of aquatic plants in marshy areas such as the Columbia wetlands. Tundra swans do not breed until their fourth or fifth year. A year before this, pairs normally go steady and defend a territory without actually nesting. Nesting occurs in early June before the snow if off the Arctic tundra.
Betty has created this piece with a glass mosaic construction on plexiglass. She finds inspiration in living near Kootenay National Park and enjoys the wild birds of this beautiful area. Betty has enjoyed doing crafts and painting for much of her life. Betty began working with mosaics two years ago.
