WINDOWS OF THE WEST STAINED GLASS Innisfail, AB
The Elk once a common site in Kootenay national park, portrayed is this Bull Elk as often seen standing in the distance guarding their herd. For added appeal the artists framed this in a 13.5 inch pottery ring hanging from climbing rope.
About the artists:
Bob and Flory discovered stained glass after retiring in 1999. Their love for the medium has led them to open a studio and work on commissioned pieces for clients. Their greatest passion is making wildlife, western and flower panels. Their work has been juried on numerous occasions and they display their panels in Central Alberta venues as well as on Canadian and American websites

MORNING THOUGHTS
DOUGLAS REED , Aldergrove, BC
Doug and his wife and have a deep love and passion for dogs, their dogs as with wolf family have integrate social structure, their intelligence and dedication to the family (pack) is beyond measure. I would be heart broken if there were no dogs in our lives, said Doug, it is for these reasons I created this wolf piece. This piece of stained glass is 25 by 38 inches.

Doug has been a stained glass artist for the past five years, his quest for unique pieces has led him to research his subjects and create his own patters and artwork using both and leading techniques, his favorite subjects to immortalize in glass art, are predators and large wildlife prey found in his native northwest.

WILD CONFIDENCE
DOUGLAS REED, Aldergrove, BC
Proud, confident and majestic were my first thoughts when I saw my first Bighorn Sheep. Doug recalls, the hotel that we stayed at backed onto Kootenay National Park, on out first night staying there four Bighorn Sheep wandered up to the tall grass growing on the fringe of the hotel parking lot, and grazing for a few movements. The next day while walking in a wooded area on one of the trails of the park, we stumbled into a heard with out realizing it. From the moment on I knew that I had to make the Big Horn Sheep the subject of one of my pieces of glass. This piece of stained glass is 25 by 36 inches.

FISHERMAN
LINDA P. DAVIS, Drayton Valley, AB
25 x 24 inch fused piece featuring a Fisherman was created by Pre fusing sections rocks, mountain, woodpecker, fisherman and fish of the compositions then laying out as one piece for the final fusing.
About the artist:
Linda lived in Drayton Valley Through out her life and began exploring the aspects of Stained Glass and glass manipulation as a hobby. She has taught classes in copper foil, leaded work, mosaic, fusing. glass painting, and screen printing, in Drayton Valley at the Powerhouse Further Education Consortium and in her home studio.

URSUS
NOPAL GLASSWORK, Chilliwack, BC
This 24 by 36 inch window was made using the copper foil technique, with translucent and opalescent glasses, framed in rustic pine. As part of their "Canadiana" work that has been influenced by such Canadian artists as the Group of Seven (particularly Lawren Harris), Emily Carr and E.J. Hughes, capturing the panoramic majesty of the Canadian Rockies, with some abstraction.
About the artist:
Nopal Glassworks was started in 1994 by Rhea Arenson and Tim Bryans. Rhea a native of Winnipeg settled in Chilliwack in the early 1970's. She has been involved in stained glass for over 30 years. Tim hails originally from Nova Scotia and has been working in glass designs for about 15 years. Nopal Glassworks offers art glass designs in traditional Victorian, Abstract, Canadiana and Architectural styles. Using both copper foil and lead came techniques. Nopal specializes in designs for entryways, casements and fluorescent light boxes (free standing or wall mounted).

HIS MAJESTY
MALCOLM (MAL) MCMURDO, Calgary, AB
A very familiar sight in Radium Hot Springs is this Bighorn Sheep Ram overlooking his domain the Sinclair canyon at Sunrise, this image is captured in stained glass in a 17 by 17 inch octagonal frame.
About the artist:
Mal is an accomplished stained glass artisan, bringing his excellent combinations of color and texture selection to his glass artistry. His work includes small and large window hangings, lamps and sun catchers. He began exploring the endless textures and colors of glass in the mid 1980's and established his own stained glass business in 1990 while working full time for New Holland Credit. His time since retirement is spent on the pursuit and creation of art in the stained glass media and in teaching. His work is featured in many galleries and private collections.

BIG HORN SHEEP
ANGELA ZISSOFF, Kelowna, BC
This 14 5/8" x 14 5/8" fused and painted piece of glass depicts a paradisiacal landscape with the Big Horn Sheep, an indigenous creature of the Kootenays. As the human species continues to grow, we are so fortunate to still witness these animals at a close proximity. There is also a sense of impending danger as illustrated by the shape of the horn resembling a target placed in the center of the composition. As in previous glass pieces, Angela has included the majestic mountains of the Rockies to show her overwhelming inspiration and awe for this part of the country
About the artist:
Angela has been enjoying the continual learning experience the stained glass world has to offer for the past 18 years. After training in Graphic Design and Fine Arts, she attended the Banff School of Fine Arts. She worked at various artistic pursuits until joining forces with her husband's family guild of stained glass artists. Betty grew up in the Columbia Valley, as an adult she finds inspiration in living near Kootenay National Park and enjoys the wilderness of this beautiful area. Betty has enjoyed doing crafts and painting for much of her life. Betty began working with mosaics four years ago.

This 30 by 30 inch stained glass piece is done by the copper foil method. The spider web has some decorative soldering to give it the web feeling. She fused the loon along with the rocks and overlaid it to the piece.

TREE BEARS

This 24-inch by 60-inch piece was developed from a photo, done in cooper foil and solder. Glass is Kokomo, Wismach and Spectrum
Ray grew up in the east Kootenay area, his father a hunting guide, Ray thought it would be appropriate to return to the bears as a subject, creating a permanent tribute to the creatures which we hope will continue to roam the forests of the Rockies forever.
About the artist:
I describe my self more as an artisan then artist, because I am not blessed with that magical ability to simply create images on paper with pencil or paintbrush, I wish I could. Rather, I have to create my images form photographs, or by patching together bit and pieces of images to create the patterns I need. I have a number of installations at the Sun Peaks Resort in Kamloops, and have shipped pieces as far as New York, Colorado and Toronto.
